Free flu and COVID-19 vaccinations to help protect homeless people in Bournemouth

On 09 October 2024, the NHS Dorset and the HealthBus Trust successfully launched the vaccine programme and provided 28 flu and 23 COVID-19 vaccinations to individuals experiencing homelessness in Bournemouth. Held at the YMCA from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM, the clinic also offered health checks, diabetes screenings, Hepatitis C advice and treatment, and sexual health services.

The following day, another vaccination clinic took place at Love Church, St Swithun’s Church, from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. This initiative, as part of the ongoing partnership between the NHS and HealthBus, ensures that everyone, including the homeless community, receives essential healthcare ahead of winter.

Holly Wentworth, the lead vaccination nurse for Dorset HealthCare, said, “It was fantastic to see so many people today. We hope even more will attend tomorrow to stay protected and healthy.”

Kate Hibbitt, Operations Director of the HealthBus, added, “We’re pleased with today’s turnout. It’s vital that health services remain accessible, and we are committed to supporting the wellbeing of those most in need.”
