Lions Club of Poole makes a donation to fund essential items for smoking cessation outreach work
Back in January 2023, the Lions Club of Poole made £250.00 donation to the HealthBus Trust to support smoking cessation work undertaken by the charity’s Outreach work. Their donation has allowed us to purchase some essential smoking cessation resources to help our vulnerable patients understand the dangers and physical/mental consequences of smoking.
Our Outreach Nurse (Chrissie) and clinical team are positioned to engage with marginalised groups to improve heart-related conditions. Many homeless patients we counter have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) due to smoking and other additional cardiovascular diseases. Your donation has provided essential aid and educational resources to support the most marginalised in our community.
Since January Chrissie has undertaken 207 clinical appointments with patients. 66% of people experiencing homelessness cite drug or alcohol use as a reason for first becoming homeless. Chrissie continues to deliver heart screenings and bespoke support to access Nicotine Replacement Therapy and vapes.
“These resources allow us to open conversations with patients about cardiovascular health and diseases. It’s impactful and helpful to have models and information which demonstrates the dangers of smoking and the damage it causes. We are grateful to the Lions Club of Poole for their support.” Chrissie Croucher, Engagement & Enhancement Outreach Nurse.
