AJC Completes Ultimate Physical Challenge, Raising Money For the HealthBus Trust

Dorset-based affordable housing specialist AJC Group has begun preparing for the ultimate ‘HealthBus Challenge’ in April, aiming to raise £10,000 for local charity HealthBus Trust. This monumental week-long event will feature intense physical tasks, including heavy lifting, skipping, and jumping, leading up to the grand finale where the AJC team will pull a massive 4.5-tonne HealthBus along the beachfront to Bournemouth.

The 35-member AJC Group team completed a week of exhausting physical challenges starting on 15 April. During the week, the team lifted a combined total equivalent to 500 HealthBuses, each weighing 4.5 tonnes, skipped to match the entire population of Bournemouth, which is 196,000 people, and jumped the total height of 5,000 HealthBuses, each at 273 cm.

The culminating event on Friday, 19 April, required the team to summon all their strength to pull a 4.5-tonne HealthBus, roughly the same weight as an elephant, along the promenade from Sandbanks to Bournemouth, covering a distance of 5 km. This final stretch tested the team’s endurance and determination to support a cause they deeply care about.

The funds raised will go toward HealthBus Trust, which provides essential healthcare and support to people experiencing homelessness in Bournemouth and the surrounding areas.

David Cracklen, Director of AJC Group, remarked, “We’ve started training, and it’s clear this will be our most challenging fundraiser yet. Even if we can’t walk for days afterward, we’re determined to succeed. Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole district has the highest number of rough sleepers outside of London, so the work of HealthBus Trust and its partner charities is more crucial than ever. We hope many people will come out to support us and donate on our final day!”

Deano Pickering, Executive Director at HealthBus Trust, stated, “This is by far the most extreme and physically demanding challenge anyone has taken on for us. We’re incredibly grateful to AJC Group. Partnerships like this are vital for sustaining our critical services and providing specialised care for those facing homelessness in our community.”

Poole-based AJC Group is committed to enhancing the availability and quality of affordable housing in the Wessex region. The company has a track record of supporting local residents experiencing homelessness and recently delivered an innovative project providing 24 ‘move-on’ homes in Poole. AJC Group has several ongoing construction projects with a focus on much-needed affordable and sustainable housing.
