Socially Conscious Design 2026

Level 4 (First Year) BA Interior Architecture students at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) have completed a Socially Conscious Design unit focused on social mobility and youth homelessness prevention. Running from January to March 2026, the unit concluded on 02 March 2026 with students presenting their final design proposals.

Working in collaboration with HealthBus, students explored how thoughtful spatial design can address the root causes of youth homelessness—strengthening life chances, reducing vulnerability, and helping prevent crisis before it happens. Their brief centred on a main interior hub on Poole High Street, alongside a deployable kiosk/satellite to create meaningful micro-engagement in public spaces.

Jordan represented HealthBus at the student presentations, sharing: “The students have taken this unit seriously and have explored some innovative ideas surrounding youth homelessness prevention. Huge credit to all as they navigated a challenging and difficult brief and used design to meet the needs of the brief—well done to all.”
