CHRP 2026 Annual Conference, Beyond Categories: Intersectionality in Homelessness
On 08 September 2026, the Centre for Homelessness Research and Practice (CHRP) at the University of Southampton hosted its 4th Annual Conference, in London, bringing together more than 100 professionals, researchers, practitioners and people with lived experience from across the homelessness sector. This year’s conference focused on the theme of intersectionality, exploring how overlapping social, health and structural inequalities impact people experiencing homelessness.
The event opened with reflections from Professor Nick Maguire, who highlighted current challenges facing the sector and the importance of evidence-based practice. Professor Durka Dougall (Centre for Population Health) shared powerful insights into how her lived experience is helping to influence policy and service development with London NHS Trusts and Integrated Care Boards.
Throughout the day, delegates attended presentations covering a wide range of topics, including complexity and multiple disadvantage, temporary accommodation, youth homelessness, systems and services, hidden homelessness, social inclusion, and improving access to care and support.
HealthBus was proud to contribute to the programme through the presentation of its Mixed-Methods Evaluation, delivered by Bels Wathen and Frances Greenway. The research showcased the value of relational, person-centred approaches in supporting people experiencing homelessness.
The conference concluded with a keynote address from Lucy Campbell of Single Homeless Project, focusing on the Women’s Census and women’s health. We thank the University of Southampton for its ongoing commitment to advancing research, sharing best practice, and strengthening collaboration across the homelessness sector.
